VIVIE Q&A
The only difference between Lab-grown and Mined Diamonds is origin.
Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical to Mined diamonds, but created in a laboratory using cutting-edge technology. They’re an ethical, sustainable alternative with less environmental impact.
At VIVIE we offer both Lab-grown and Mined, and you can read more about this here.
What's the difference between 9K and 10K gold?
Both are among the more affordable, durable gold options. 9K gold contains 37.5% pure gold. 10K gold contains 41.7% pure gold. VIVIE uses 9K and 10K gold across our pieces, in line with Australian gold standards for fine jewellery.
What is Gold Vermeil?
Gold Vermeil is solid silver coated in a thick layer of 18k gold, much thicker than standard plating. VIVIE's coating is 3 microns, above the industry standard of 2.5 microns, giving you a longer-lasting, more durable finish than typical vermeil. It looks exactly like solid yellow gold, hypoallergenic, and gives you real diamonds at a more accessible price point without compromising on how it looks or wears.
What is Platinum Vermeil ?
Silver Coated in Platinum (a premium metal), solid silver finished with a 1 micron platinum coating, a significant thickness that gives real durability and shine, not a token layer. It looks exactly like solid white gold, hypoallergenic and built to last, giving you real diamonds at a more accessible price point without compromising on how it looks or wears.
Which metal should I choose?
It comes down to whether solid gold matters to you, or whether you're happy to achieve the same look with real diamonds in a different metal. We aren't able to offer every style in Vermeil or Silver Coated in Platinum, silver is a little softer than gold, so we're careful not to risk quality. You'll notice our tennis necklaces are only available in larger total carat weights in these metals, this is to protect quality and durability at scale.
Why isn't Vermeil available on every product or every size?
Vermeil base is solid silver, a softer metal than solid gold, so we're careful about where and how it's used to protect quality. On pieces with a higher total carat weight, like our larger tennis necklaces, Vermeil is only offered from a minimum carat weight upward. This ensures the setting has enough structural support to securely hold the diamonds long-term, so they do not flip and you're not compromising durability for accessibility.
